Chew Lips are still on the rise with their exceptional brand of future classic pop, as the positive reviews continue to pour in. And critics aren’t the only ones into the trio – music lovers have been posting about the band on blogs and music forums alike.
A Popjustice member wrote: “Just wondered
if any other Popjusticers on here were into Chew Lips? I caught them live supporting Howling Bells a couple of weeks ago at the
Oxford O2 Academy (had no heard of them before) and have been hooked ever since. Their debut single ‘Solo’ is out… on Kitsuné which
is rather good and there are some pretty cool demos on their MySpace. ‘Play Together,’ ‘Twin Galaxies’ and ‘CLVRI’ are awesome.”
The trio – comprised of the lovely-voiced frontwoman Tigs and instrumentalists Will and James – was determined to be
anything but a guitar band, having already gone that route with previous projects. What they came up with instead was a completely
new sound based around Casiotone beats that incorporates every instrument but the kitchen sink – as Tigs puts it: “load of
instruments, drum machines, laptops”.
There were several people on the Popjustice forum that, after listening to the
band’s music, had positive things to say.
One new fan posted: “I actually liked the demos much more than the released song. And
I love her voice. Hope something will come of this – thanks for introducing”.
Another more seasoned fan was surprised that no
one had mentioned the band’s most recent single: “I’m shocked that no one ever mentioned their new single, ‘Salt
Air.’ This song is absolutely amazing.”
