Tigs, Will and James joined to form their band Chew Lips in the spring of 2008, and the London trio was almost immediately the subject of offers from record labels.
The band’s rapport was so automatic that Chew Lips wrote ten songs during their first rehearsal and
have made dozens more since. After working together for slightly more than one year the band has sharpened their sound and more and
more people are sitting up to take notice (though it certainly helps to have the selective indie label Kitsuné behind you when you
are building up your reputation).
The blog Vivre l’air des arts writes: “The first gigs and home demos have earned Chew Lips
rave reviews, radio play, radio sessions, a place in the BBC electric proms, tours with Howling Bells and The Virgins. Just you
watch what happens in 2009….”
The band, who just released their latest single in “Salt Air,” have been
working constantly at writing, recording and performing – and their obvious talents have earned them the place in the spotlight that
they deserve.
“Tigs sings and stalks the stage, while Will and James wrestle Casiotone beats from a drum machine and
make a joyful racket on pretty much any instrument they can lay their hands on,” continues Vivre l’air des arts.
The
band has received compliments from various blogs and music magazines, and as they organize the material to appear on their debut
album there are already a plethora of fans waiting for its release.
“We didn’t know what we wanted to do, but we did
know what we didn’t want to do,” frontwoman Tigs asserts. “We knew we didn’t want to be another guitar band in this post-Bloc Party
world… so we got instruments we weren’t really used to.”
